The fusion of psychology and wireless sensor networks for enhancing user’s experience using their personal data

MINDScape is a 12 month project by i2 media research ltd. and HW Communications, partly funded by Innovate UK, the UK's innovation agency sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills. MINDScape will implement the Emotionally Intelligent Retail Environment, a concept developed by i2 media which can be described as follows:

(1) potential customer enters the store.  If they have opted in to share their data with the system, they are identified automatically via their smart mobile device.  (2) MINDScape then activates their life style profile and (3) using sensors built in to the store (e.g., movement around the store, proximity/ duration by different products) to make an inference about their mind state, interest and objective (e.g. spending a long time apparently ‘interested’ in a specific jacket).  (4) Recognising the customer’s interest in the jacket, & knowing from their lifestyle profile that they are most responsive to discount offers, the system then generates a personalised flash price offer delivered direct to the customer on their smart phone as they are standing by the jacket or trying it on.

A series of focus groups were conducted in November/December 2015 to gather feedback and identify new key features for the MINDscape services. A summary of the results will be made available on this page soon.
